Privacy
Worldspawn is a free daily game with no accounts: it never asks for your name, your email or a password. This page says what the game keeps, where it keeps it, and why.
On your device
Your browser keeps these for the game, in this site’s storage:
- a random Player ID, made on your first visit, so the game can tell your Guesses from everyone else’s;
- your progress in recent Rounds, so a refresh doesn’t lose your place;
- the dates and Round scores of the Main rounds you’ve finished, for your Streak and Your stats;
- the Round scores of the Game rounds you’ve finished, for each Game’s Your stats;
- the score to beat from each challenge link you’ve opened, for the three latest Main rounds and each Game’s three latest Game rounds;
- your settings: kilometres or miles, and whether to confirm before locking in;
- your answer about analytics;
- while analytics run, PostHog’s own record of your visit, in keys that start with
ph_.
Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes all of it, and you start again as a new Player.
On the server
For each Guess, the server keeps your Player ID, the Round and Question, the spot you tapped, and its distance, Accuracy and Points. It uses them to score your Round, to show your results, and to work out the Field stats, which only ever show totals for everyone who played, never which Player made which Guess. Where the Field Guessed a Question shows as a heatmap of how many Players Guessed in each square of about 25 km, with no Player IDs.
Reports
When you report a problem with a Question, the server keeps your note with your Player ID and the Question, and sends the note to the founder on Telegram, a messaging app. Please keep personal details out of your notes.
Analytics
Worldspawn uses PostHog, a product analytics service, to learn how the game is played: when a Round starts and is finished, each Guess’s Accuracy, Round scores, taps on Share, Reports sent, and which pages are visited. PostHog gets your Player ID, never your name, along with what any website sees: your browser and device, and the address of each page, including whether you came from a shared Share text or a link with a ref tag. PostHog also sees your IP address, and works out from it roughly where you are: your country and city. There are no recordings of your screen and no advertising.
If you’re in the EU, the EEA or the UK, judged by the country your connection comes from, analytics start only after you allow them. When that country can’t be told, you aren’t asked. Wherever you are, you can change your answer here at any time. Turning analytics off stops them at once and removes what PostHog kept in your browser. It reaches every tab you have open on the site, unless your browser blocks this site’s data.
Hosting
The site runs on Vercel, which sees your IP address when your browser connects, as any website’s host does. The game’s database runs on Neon; your browser never connects to it. The game uses the country your connection comes from only to decide whether to ask you about analytics, and doesn’t keep it.
Age
Worldspawn is for people aged 13 and over. If you’re under 13, please don’t play.
Deleting your data
To have your data deleted, report a problem on any Question and ask for it in the note. Reports carry your Player ID, so the founder can find your Guesses, your Reports and what PostHog keeps under your Player ID, and remove them all.
Changes
If this page changes, the date below changes with it. See also the terms.
